Oncology Calm Support Protocol

Overview

The QHS Oncology Calm Support Touch File is designed to support relaxation, emotional calming, and recovery-state rest for members receiving oncology care.

Whether you are resting after treatment, recovering from an emotionally demanding day, or simply seeking a quiet period of restorative rest, this Touch File provides a peaceful environment that encourages comfort and overall well-being.

It may also be used during caregiver-supported rest periods or palliative and hospice care when authorized by your healthcare team and care environment.

This Touch File is intended solely to support your overall wellness. It is not a treatment for cancer, sleep disorders, pain, or any medical condition.

Intended to Support

This Touch File is designed to support:

  • Relaxation and stress calming
  • Quiet rest following oncology appointments or treatment
  • Recovery-state relaxation during periods of fatigue
  • Low-stimulation rest during emotionally demanding days
  • Caregiver-supported quiet time when safety communication remains clear
  • Palliative or hospice comfort when authorized by the healthcare team
  • Participant-reported comfort, relaxation, and sleep quality

Before You Begin

Continue following the care plan provided by your oncology team. This Touch File is designed to complement—not replace—your medical care.

Please continue following recommendations regarding:

  • Medications
  • Oncology treatments
  • Hydration
  • Nutrition
  • Oxygen use
  • Wound care
  • Hospice or palliative care plans
  • Follow-up appointments

For your safety:

  • Use this Touch File while comfortably resting in bed or another quiet location.
  • Do not use it if it prevents you from hearing your healthcare team, caregivers, family members, alarms, oxygen equipment, or your call bell.
  • Do not use during medication reviews, nursing assessments, oxygen adjustments, or urgent medical situations.
  • Keep the volume at a comfortable listening level.
  • Stop using the Touch File if it causes dizziness, nausea, headache, confusion, agitation, emotional distress, unusual dreams, increased discomfort, or sleep disruption.

Creating a Restful Environment

Many members find it helpful to prepare both the body and the environment before beginning.

Consider:

  • Dimming the lights 30–60 minutes before bedtime.
  • Reducing television, phone, or tablet use.
  • Keeping the room cool, quiet, and comfortable.
  • Allowing yourself to breathe naturally without trying to force sleep.
  • Letting the day's thoughts settle without feeling the need to solve them.

Your goal is not to make rest happen.

Your goal is simply to create the conditions in which rest is welcome.

Even if rest does not come immediately, periods of quiet relaxation and restorative rest can still be beneficial.
