Overview

This QHS Oncology Scan-Wait / Appointment Calm Standalone Protocol is a short, restricted oncology comfort-support audio file intended for scan-wait, lab-wait, appointment-wait, results-wait, biopsy-wait, consult-wait, and pre-visit emotional downshift.

This protocol is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, prevent, reverse, slow, or manage cancer, tumor burden, scan results, pathology results, treatment response, or any medical condition. Oncology care remains primary.

Intended to Support

  • Waiting-room calm before oncology appointments
  • Scan-wait and imaging-center calm
  • Lab-wait and blood-draw waiting calmly
  • Biopsy-wait, pathology-wait, or results-wait downshift
  • Care-partner quietly supports, while waiting
  • Brief emotional regulation support before speaking with the care team
  • Transition support after difficult news or before leaving the facility, only if safe and not driving
  • Waiting period before scans, labs, consults, oncology appointments, or results discussions


Standard use - 1 session during the waiting period when safe and appropriate

Repeat use - May repeat once after at least a 20-30 minute break if still waiting and comfortable

Daily limit - No more than 2 sessions in one day unless specifically cleared and clearly tolerated

Driving restriction - Do not use while driving, walking through a facility, or when instructions must be heard clearly

Do not - Do not loop continuously; do not play overnight; do not use during clinical instruction, consent, examination, imaging, or urgent symptoms

Medical Primacy And Non-Interference Rules

  • Do not use headphones if they interfere with hearing names being called, staff instructions, alarms, safety cues, or care-team communication.
  • Do not use during consent review, medication review, clinical examination, imaging scan instructions, IV placement instructions, or urgent symptom review.
  • Do not use this file to delay urgent contact with the oncology team, emergency department, or after-hours nurse line.
  • Stop use if the audio causes dizziness, nausea, headache, agitation, confusion, sensory pressure, emotional distress, or sleepiness in an unsafe environment.


Emergency / Oncology Escalation Triggers

The following situations require medical review and are not QHS audio-use situations:

  • Fever, chills, signs of infection, or feeling acutely unwell during chemotherapy or immune suppression
  • Shortness of breath, chest pain, fainting, sudden weakness, or sudden neurologic changes
  • Uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea, severe dehydration concern, confusion, uncontrolled pain, or urgent medication reaction concern
  • Heavy bleeding, severe swelling, severe new pain, port/line concern, oxygen concern, or any urgent post-procedure concern


Combining With Other QHS TOUCH Files

  • Do not play two QHS TOUCH files at the same time.
  • This short scan-wait file may be used on the same day as a treatment-day decompression file or sleep/rest file if separated by at least 6 hours.
  • If the user is tired, sedated, overwhelmed, or medically unstable, use only one QHS audio file that day or pause.
  • Do not stack with strong detox, immune, inflammation, endocrine, organ-specific, or deep sleep files in the same facility waiting period.

Helpful Notes To Track

  • Date and location of use.
  • Use context: scan-wait, lab-wait, appointment-wait, result-wait, biopsy-wait, or consult-wait.
  • Stress level before and after, using a 0-10 private scale.
  • Ability to remain alert and hear staff clearly.
  • Any reason to pause.
